iTunes Review
LaPorte, Texas–based Buxton built a steady following in Houston with its Laurel Canyon country/roots rock, which gets an upgrade here after two self-released albums. The group doesn't pay a strict homage, skillfully infusing its sound with indie rock influences that align it with Dawes, My Morning Jacket, and Wilco more than, say, Poco. Singer Sergio Trevino evokes a mellow introspection, even as his band climbs in scale. "Fingertips" throws country harmonies and parlor-room pianos into a heartfelt ballad that still has plenty of meat on its bones. "Blown a Fuse" starts with Adams-style acoustic guitar drama before the band finally boils over. "Broke from Bread" begins with a sense of lonesomeness before an agitated beat switches up the verses and leads into Band-like harmonies. "Riverbed" hits an existential plateau where Trevino's soul searching gets a hand from prettified production that adds a sweet glaze to his questions. The members perform like a true ensemble, weaving among one another and the occasional mandolin, creating textures that let one dream while traveling through time and space.
Customer Reviews
Buxton
OK I'm biased as these guys are from the Houston area but this ensemble is easily 1 of the best bands to come out of H-Town in a while. The lyrics, guitar & harmony are clever & catchy. Buxton is great at festivals, great in small acoustic situations & this is a great album!!!
