iTunes Review

Having received a nod from Robbie Robertson who used them as his backing band, Dawes are clearly on the way to becoming a respected “classic rock” band. Their obvious Laurel Canyon influences are made more pronounced. “Fire Away,” featuring Jackson Browne on backing vocals (and Benmont Tench on organ), could have been written by the well-known Southern California star. In fact, the entire album could be a long lost Jackson Browne album. “Moon in the Water” is a dead ringer for Browne. The smooth grooves and gorgeous instrumentation present for “Time Spent In Los Angeles,” “Coming Back to a Man” and “How Far We’ve Come” sound like great records Browne never made. Leader Taylor Goldsmith can’t help it. His voice is that close and his songwriting is that strong. It’s breathtaking that the band has grown to this level of evocative beauty. Alex Casnoff’s piano is the secret weapon, bringing an intimacy to everything he touches. This is a must-have for people who miss the sounds of the ‘70s. This iTunes version includes two bonus tracks that are equally essential.

Nothing is Wrong is an undeniably breathtaking album

When My Time Comes, the hit single off of their debut album North Hills has come to fruition. Dawes is grown into an instant classic band with harmonies and lyrics that truly set you back in awe. The songs grow on you like the growing pains within the lyrics, as the vibes keep getting "oh so delicious". BUY THIS RECORD and SEE DAWES LIVE, if you care to live life.

Great Stuff!

I didn't think about Dawes much until I accidentally saw them open for Brett Dennen two weeks ago. The show was amazing, full of energy, memorable from the first verse of the first song.

Listening to this album for the first time at 32, I feel like I'm 16 years old, sitting in my bedroom listening to a new Dave Matthews/Blues Traveler/Rusted Root album, enjoying the lyrics and the joy and the decent middle-pop-rock instrumentation. This is the sort of album I could listen to again and again. It's the right thing for right now.

Nothing is Wrong...with this Album

Northern Hills hasn't left my cd player in my car since it came out, but it may be time to finally make the switch!

Dawes puts out another great album!

Cheers!

Biography

Formed: North Hills, CA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s

California-based roots rock band Dawes consists of brothers Taylor Goldsmith and Griffin Goldsmith (lead vocals/guitar and drums, respectively), Wylie Weber (bass), and Alex Casnoff (guitar). Formed in the Los Angeles suburb of North Hills, the unit was heavily influenced by the gentle, acoustic-based musical trappings and rich vocal harmony of the Laurel Canyon sound (Crosby, Stills & Nash, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell), as well as by the shambling, romanticized Americana of the Band.
