Album Review
Charlie Haden and his Quartet West continue to mine the "noir jazz" genre inspired by '40s films. Seldom does modern music so perfectly evoke a time and place in history as this terrific band. Fans of Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra will find the simple accessibility either surprising or disappointing, but fans of classic, romantic jazz will find joy.

I agree with med_oats, "The Left Hand of God" is particularly beautiful. 30 seconds does not give you a true "listen".
Filled with emotion!
I'll admit that I haven't listened to much of Haden's music but I just have to recommend that you buy this album. The song The Left Hand of God is particularly beautiful. The bass in that song just reminds me of the emotion and care that a master like Edgar Meyer puts into a solo. I only mention him because he's the only relatively famous bassist I know but the bassist for that song just transports me to a place so little music can reach. The entire album is full of wonderful gems that delighted me. I'm moved almost to tears everytime I listen to this wonderful work..... In other words, Buy It!!
