Phenomenal, as always

Matthew Mayfield's music is genuine and spectacular, his new album is no different. He couples up with other amazing artists on this album like Joy Williams and John Paul White (from the band The Civil Wars) and Bo Rhinehart (from the band Needtobreathe, who will be opening for Taylor Swift this year). Every song tells a beautiful story and they all form one amazing album. Get it now. You will not regret it.

Now You're Free

As a long, long time listener of Matthew Mayfield, I have been waiting for this full length for quite a while. About half the songs have been released before, but they've been updated and I really like the newer versions. Some are only slightly different and none are complete changes, for instance I really dig the new drum beats in Fire Escape and there are some different guitar effects on Man-Made Machines which give it an even grittier feel, which I didn't think was possible - it's awesome! MM's voice is very clear on this album as well - some of his earlier EP's were a little more growl-y and this album keeps that feel but you can understand the lyrics better - which is one of the greatest things about MM - there is some real depth to him. In preparation for this release, 1 week ago I started listening to all of his stuff on repeat and it felt like I was having a conversation with an old friend - I know that reeks of some very stinky cheesiness, but that's what MM's music is like. I truly hope this album hits the mainstream - so that more and more people can know about MM and be impacted by his raw emotions, truth, grittiness, and passion. Although, it's been pretty cool to be part of a group of a "cult" following of sorts. I saw MM in concert in an old beat up theater and it was just him and an acoustic and about 30 people - I've seen giants like Metallica, DMB, and Jack Johnson and that MM show has to be one of my favorite. Shoot, by the album already!.

A fantastic musical display of melodic songs!

Now You're Free is very rich in sound and lyric. Matthew has taken songs from previous EP's and provided new and unique arrangements. Mayfield is an emotionally-charged singer-songwriter, and is quite a treat watching him evolve as a musician through the years. All of the songs are great, but my personal favorite is the sensitive and yearning, 'Fire Escape.' Fans of Bobby Long, Katie Herzig, and The Civil Wars, will enjoy Matthew's music.
