Album Review
The third release by King Kooba, breakbeat collective extraordinaire, ventures far away from the realm of breakbeat house and into a land that can only be classified as "funky downbeat" with plenty of breaks, textures, and scratching. By no means should you expect the kind of energy found on a typical breaks or funk offering — 95 percent of this album is laid-back in the extreme. Songs such as "Fooling Myself," with delicious vocals provided by Melissa Heathcote, and "Lexy's Drop," with its distorted MC voiceovers and grooving bassline, are languid and almost soporific. The title track, on the other hand, has plenty of funky attitude. Though this album never really gets past second gear, it's easy on the ears and surprisingly addictive. ~ L. Katz, Rovi
Customer Reviews
Very cool.
A smooth and inventive album. I began listening to it on Chill (Sirius Satellite Radio) and I was immediately hooked. Tracks to get: California Suite The Antidote Interlude Epilogue If you like this material, I also recommend the artists: Coldcut mum Exchpoptune
Good album
In the ocean of more or less "the same" from Om, this album stands out in the positive way. After listen to it a few times, you will recognize this album within a first five-ten seconds, which is the one of the elements that makes it so good. As time will show, East Coast's lazy sun will prove deadly to cloudy but demanding London.
Love this album, Fooling Myself is a classic!
If you slept on this album, now's the time to wake up. It's an underground diamond in the rough, that deserves its shine!
