iTunes Review

Janet Jackson’s Number Ones comprises nothing but chart toppers, save for the new tune “Make Me,” a heavy thumping dance-floor smash. Since Design of a Decade: 1986 – 1996 is her only previous hits collection, Number Ones is a welcome update assembling 33 peaking hits, covering charts from North America, Europe, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. Number Ones is sequenced chronologically, so it plays with the arc of a rising star. “What Have You Done For Me Lately” opens with sassy aplomb serving as her first breakthrough hit (and as nostalgia for a time when the song became embedded in pop culture via Eddie Murphy’s 1987 film Raw). You get a sense of the dated production trends when “Nasty” follows, but Herb Alpert’s trumpet on “Diamonds” sounds timeless. She got into sampling in the 21st century, looping a riff from America’s “Ventura Highway” for the infectious “Someone to Call My Lover” (which also sampled Erik Satie’s “Gymnopédie No. 1”).

THE Best Compilation Album of The Year By Far!!!!

"My first name ain't baby, it's Janet, Miss Jackson if you're nasty!"

Well its about time Janet!! 23 years later, after that iconic catchphrase made Janet an overnight, world-wide superstar, here we are in 2009 with her CD tilted "Number Ones". Janet is one of my most favorite artists of all time, and this compilation album proves why. This has her best and biggest hits of her career which spans the past 23 years (27 if you count her first two albums) of hit music. She's an artist that is so unique, from her incredibly dynamic performances to her remarkable music. Her iconic songs like "Nasty", "All For You", "That's the Way Love Goes" , "Rhythm Nation", "If", "What Have You Done For Me Lately", "Miss You Much", "Again", "Together Again" (My Favorite!!) and her new single "Make Me" are all on this CD, and they show that she deserves the title "Queen of Pop".

The reason she deserves that title is because of the accomplishments she has made in her career, the impact she has had on the music industry, and the legacy she has become. Janet has been recognized for those accomplishments with the awards she has received, including her 6 Grammy's, 12 American Music Awards, 34 Billboard Music Awards (more than any other artist), 7 Number One albums (6 on Billboard Top 200), and her 27 Number one Singles (10 on Billboard Hot 100). Her albums "The Velvet Rope" and "Rhythm Nation 1814" are on Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time", she is one of the best world-wide selling artist of all time, and MTV even declared her an MTV Icon in 2001!! That right there says a lot about how far she's come in her magnificent career and where she is still going.

So with all that said, this is THE compilation album of the year, and is a must have in any music fans collection. Her career as an artist, actress, and humanitarian is still going strong, and Janet, if you happen to read this, I'll be anticipating your next number one album early next year, and I hope you "Make Me Move" to your classic sound and continue your legacy as the "Queen of Pop"!!!

(And P.S. I have no idea why that review is on JANET'S NUMBER ONES CD!! Some people have to mention Michael when we talk about Janet. Janet doesn't get the respect she deserves!!! Get the right review!!!)

finally!

so excited its finally here! so many great hits in one place. its like re-living my youth again. a must have for any Janet fan!

Few celebrity siblings can emerge from the shadows of their already famous relations to become superstars in their own right and with their own distinct personalities. That's exactly what Janet Jackson did in becoming one of the biggest female pop and R&B stars of the '80s and '90s. Since her breakthrough in 1986 with the album Control, Jackson's career as a hitmaker has been a model of consistency, rivaling Madonna and Whitney Houston in terms of pop chart success over the long haul. A big part...
