iTunes Review
Two dudes from Los Angeles, Thes One and Double K have been cranking out top-notch hip-hop since 1998. Heavily influenced by the golden-era sound, their music is all about well-placed jazzy samples, neck-snapping breakbeats, and block party/BBQ-ready rhyme schemes. Classically styled while avoiding retro gimmickry, they've amassed a global fanbase of crate diggers and aging b-boys, touring and collaborating with like-minded L.A. acts including Dilated Peoples, Time Machine, and Ugly Duckling. Released in 2002, O.S.T. is their third album, and basically follows their winning formula of good times, feel-good music complemented by lyrics exclusively about real life endeavors: shopping for rare records, getting faded at house parties, hollering at the ladies, eating Mexican food, and cruising around the City of Angels. While they've been extraordinarily consistent over their career, this album is a standout, a 20-track collection that is absolutely guaranteed to put you in a sunny mood. Check out the Spoonie Gee-esque jam "The Hang Loose," their hometown ode "The L.A. Song," and the vibraphone-propelled closer "The Break Down."

A Landmark Hip Hop Album
The People Under the Stairs are some of the most talented performers compilers, and rap artists I've ever listened to. It's really a shame their stuff isn't more popular because literally every track on O.S.T. is a jewel and it's one of those albums you can listen through time and time again. Every song on my iTunes has at least 15 plays each. The best of the best tracks would have to be Montego Slay, The L.A. Song (especially if you live in L.A.), and Acid Raindrops, but the album as a whole is an excellent example of how relaxing and free Hip Hop can be compared to some mainstream stuff out there. I highly suggest this to anyone who even remotely enjoys Hip Hop.
I wish I had more stars
This album is truly incredible. 5 stars aren't enough to express how exceptional this album really is. This music is just so relaxed and chill it's impossible to not like it. If you haven't listened to People under the Stairs before, give them a listen! They aren't like other underground groups who are unheard of because they aren't that good/ original. PUS are the real deal.
