Getting better every year
Having been a fan since stores weren't sure if the band was called Tower of Power or East Bay Grease, I can say if you've liked any TOP album, you'll love this one. It may be their strongest album yet. At this point in their career, we can admit that there have been cuts that you tended to skip or leave off the mix tape. That's not the case with Oakland Zone. I haven't decided which cuts will join the pantheon with "Down to the Night Club" and "What is Hip," but the early favorites are "Give Me Your Love" and "Happy 'Bout That." Every cut is filled with the classic TOP sound, whether it's hard charging funk or sweet soul. Their most consistent album yet. You gotta get the funk!
