Classic (Tracks 15-34)

I only have the latter 20 tracks which come from the 1st full length Die Kreuzen album which was originally released in 1984 by Touch and Go Records. The 1st Die Kreuzen release entitled Cows and Beer(EP) is not yet avaliable on itunes(bummer). Still this album is some of the best thrash/harcore out there.

2 albums for the price of one and a bit

The reason tracks 15 and on sound like a forgotten punk record is because apparently it is. It's the first die kreuzen album (self titled with great album artwork of some sort of industrial dinosaur silhouette) - which preceded October File. Oddly enough, both were released on touch n' go, so i guess they decided to just lump em together. Both are classic albums - I have them on vinyl and as I go back to purchase some of my favorites for my iPod (instead of spending the hours transferring my vinyl and cutting up all the tracks) I'm always surprised to find gems like these! Essential listening for anyone who wonders where bands like Voi Vod and so many other metal bands got their "dissonant" influences. Die Kruezen were one of the first to go that direction harmonically.

Sound and Fury

Die Kreuzen were a great band with a lot of power in their albums, but more importantly their live shows. They were a true powerhouse to be reckoned with, from Dan Kubinski's wails of anger and despair and Brian Egeness discordant melodies to Keith Brammer and Eric Tunison's pounding and solid backing. This band was great, unfortunately they were never able to become bigger than the bands they influenced along the way, but hopefully will be remembered for their contribution to the alternative/punk movement.

Years Active: '80s, '90s

Formed in Milwaukee, WI, in the early '80s, Die Kreuzen took equal parts of heavy metal and hardcore punk as its inspiration, producing some of the more challenging indie rock of the period and in many ways anticipating the grunge rock sound of the '90s. The band consisted of Dan Kubinski (vocals), Brian Egeness (guitar), Keith Brammer (bass), and Eric Tunison (drums)....
