Album Review
This somewhat ridiculously named five-piece from England plays brutal, technical death metal with reasonable proficiency. As with many young bands, it's possible to close your eyes while listening to their songs and picture the members' record collections, and in this case the shelves/iPods would definitely include the collected works of Decapitated, Metallica's ...And Justice for All, everything by the Black Dahlia Murder, and At the Gates' Slaughter of the Soul, just to start. There are odd bits here and there that show even greater promise, like a breakdown toward the end of the title track that's pure Amon Amarth, and there are some nice production tricks scattered about. Which is fine; those are all very good bands to steal from, if you're gonna steal, and these guys, particularly guitarists Steven Brown and Danny Guy, are skilled players. However, barring some radical compositional or technical breakthrough, it would be extraordinarily difficult for a group like Ignominious Incarceration to break out of the pack, given the limitations of death metal as a genre.

Fantastic Album
With a name like Ignominious Incarceration, you've already set your musical standards pretty high. But when you take those steep standards, decide that you're going to play technical death metal with melodeath influence, you've put that bar sky high. Leap it in a single bound, and see before you "Of Winter Born." This album takes everything melodeath and techdeath is all about, slams them headfirst into each other, gathers the remains, and molds each one into a song.
Right off the bat, you should realize that you're in for a treat. Avarice is a phenomenal to begin the album, with some amazing riffs and vocals, magnificent drumming, and overall just a good introduction. Ignominious Incarceration take a big risk trying to merge to very different death metal subgenres into each other, but the reward is great, and they hit the jackpot.
My only complaint, if even, was the very occasional repetition of riffs, where at times you may find yourself asking "Haven't I heard this before? Oh well, it's awesome either way."
