Album Review

Recorded partially in the studio using two inch analog tape and partially in concert, Sound Tribe Sector 9's third release, Offered Schematics Suggesting Peace, further blurs the distinction between live performance and straight-up sound manipulation. Without an audience to worry about, the band shines particularly on the studio tracks, where they subtly tweak their presentation to maximum effect. For most of the studio work, they are joined by former Aquarium Rescue Unit and Surrender To The Air flautist Kofi Burbridge, whose flute sounds as if it could lifted from an ancient jazz record. Oddly, despite the attention to quiet detail and perhaps due to a lack of drone, the album is less soothing and engaging then their previous (live) disc.

Customer Reviews

I did not write this review, but it complete incapsulates my opinion of the album

"I will say that this band is not for everyone. A few of my friends do like it but the majority find it unintersting. To me this band is my life. Its meditative. It reflects my mood and puts a smile on my face. Its very primitive. Much like classical music, the melodies travels the music into different movements, state of minds if you will. Also much like classical african music roots it is very ryhtmic. Almost like each player is playing a percussion instrument for the most part. The whole band moves this music not one person. It is the best music I have ever heard. This music makes me feel alive. I get tingles down my spine when they get into that groove. It makes me want to create. It fuels my mind. This band is on the same level as I am. And they constantly are amazing and challenging me when I listen to them. Dont judge this band after listening to them for 5 minutes. Pop in a tape and go on a walk and listen to it for a long while. To me, this band is everything, its almost like a drug, if i don't get my sector 9 in the morning i never have really woken up."

Biography

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Founded in Georgia in the late '90s, Sound Tribe Sector 9 (now STS9) quickly refined a style of dub-influenced, breakbeat-infused psychedelic music with a heavy emphasis on group improvisation, comparable to the work of jam band peers such as the Disco Biscuits, and the New Deal. Sound Tribe Sector 9's debut effort, Interplanetary Escape Vehicle (1998), was recorded soon after the group's formation and provides only scant hints of the sound the band would develop, instead focusing on somewhat generic...
