iTunes Review
Asia is an interesting concept: a group of progressive-rock veterans coming together to make accessible pop-rock music. Former members of Yes, U.K., Emerson Lake and Palmer and King Crimson aren’t expected to be concise. Yet, that’s exactly what Asia brought with their self-titled debut album back in the early ‘80s and it’s the same exacting formula that brings forth the bright hooks of “I Don’t Wanna Lose You Now” and “Finger On the Trigger.” The band’s moderate rock has an ageless quality that sounds like it was made for modern rock radio. The band’s instrumental pedigree can never be questioned. And while they may never reach the commercial heights of “Heat of the Moment,” they will surely please fans of their charged-up version of arena rock with readymades such as “Holy War,” “Listen Children” and “Light The Way. The band turns it down a notch for the melodious “Through My Veins,” “Ever Yours” and “There Was a Time,” where the warm synths and other keyboards create a sensitive epic quality that can only be made by veterans of the classic-rock music wars.

Back to the Beginning
Asia must have spent some time listening to their first two albums before recording the songs for Omega. The new songs harken back to the early days, but with a more contemporary sound than Phoenix, and with less of the 80's synth sound (but not totally gone) that was forced on that album. The songs are tight, concise and generally upbeat and rocking. This is the one all of us Asia fans have been waiting so long for!
Asia return
I have to agree with another poster that said that this is a nice return after Phoenix. I have to agree. I am so hooked on this new cd. This is obviously a different Asia from the early 80's but is anyone the same after 25 years. People change and music styles do to but I hear Asia and I feel it. You can't reproduce Heat of the Moment. It is done and over with. How many bands do you know that have the same original members 25+ years while making great new music and touring. Maybe it is good that they fell apart for 20 years and then came back together. I am loving the new millenium Asia. I am so hooked and not going to take this cd out of my suv any time soon. I am so pumped up that they are also coming to Syracuse this summer. It is going to rock just like they did a few years ago with the Phoenix tour! These guys get 5 of 5 stars from me.
Pleasantly Surprised...
If you are an ASIA fan, this is a must. This is what Phoenix should have been. Overall the songs are really good. 'Finger on the Trigger' is actually an ICON track that was re-recorded and rocked up for Asia.
One track that had huge potential to be a classic Asia track is 'Holy War'. The intro, melody, chorus and instrumental sections are just awesome. It gets a bit poppy at times during the verses, not sure why as it kind of contrasts with the rest of the song. Still... a great track, my favorite on this album.
Another interesting thing is that you can hear moments that seem to be inspired by The Beatles and ELO.
The rest of the album is very enjoyable and diverse. Well done!
