Kind of Perfect.

At first listen, Omni is nothing more than a very slick, sonically lush album with these fine musicians from Seattle clearly at the top of their game. However, once I was able to pump this through a nice stereo at louder volumes, the true richness of MTB's most recent release became apparent. Erin Tate's drumming, while some consider dumbed down on this record, has never been more fitting or in the pocket. With this locked in groove being lead by some of the most tasteful bass lines ever laid down in the past ten years, Jack Snider has some seriously smart, catchy vocals pushing Omni into my most favorite album of 2010. Admittedly, the guitar work isn't anything to write home about. While the tones are amazing and clearly took a lot of effort to achieve, the licks themselves rarely ever astound like they do on past records like Planet of Ice and Menos El Oso. But don't let this deter you. The sonic environments that Dave creates gives Omni it's true character and makes it one of a kind, even for Minus the Bear. Probably my favorite part of the whole record are Alex Rose's synth parts. Whether it's the sweet break down in the Thief or the quick "disco string" flourish on Into the Mirror, I've never heard a keyboardist show such creativity. Literally every song has its own style going for it and it makes Omni repeatable at any moment. Turning it on always sounds like a good idea.

minus the bear, what are you doing.

this album is real weak. it's good for useless hipsters and party anthems (during which no one actually listens to the music) otherwise is a bunch of sold out aesthetically kitsch tracks by a band that i know well enough to once have called my favorite. a let down for the true, another itunes flavor of the week album for the tasteless. disappointment

Awesome

Again they produce an amazing album...what else can I say?

With catchy song titles like "Hey, Wanna Throw Up? Get Me Naked," "Monkey!!! Knife!!! Fight!!!," and "Lemurs, Man, Lemurs," it's hard not to be at least a little bit curious about this Seattle-based quintet. Featuring members of Botch, Kill Sadie, and Sharks Keep Moving, Minus the Bear emerged on Seattle's music scene in 2001 with the release of their six-song EP This Is What I Know About Being Gigantic. The band comprised guitarist Dave Knudson, vocalist/ guitarist Jake Snider, drummer Erin Tate,...
