Great Album
I have been a Jason Upton fan for a while now and I have to say that I think this is his best album to date! I love how its totally raw from the very start. Each song is full of life, emotion and truth. Also the guest vocals of Micah Lother and Bryan Willard add a freshness as well. Simply a great album.
Great, full album... one slight caveat bringing it down to a 4 star
When you're looking for music that doesn't sound like tired, standard religious music, there's nothing like Jason Upton's. I'm not much into "Christian" music these days, but somehow Jason bridges the gap to the reality we all live in and I can hear his message without it feeling hokey. I often go into work a bit before everyone else, read a few psalms while settling in, and load up an iPhone playlist of just Jason to help ease in the day. The music itself is a 5 star; the only reason I gave it only 4 is that it doesn't take phenomenally expensive equipment these days to get better live sounding recordings than are included on this album. His past albums had much higher quality live recordings. I know he goes for the sense of what's going on in a worship service, but then he should just bring along a few better mics for each performance in case an amazing moment is there to be captured. On the other hand, I can't complain too much for 16 songs for $10. So I guess the best way to look at it is that we're getting a 5 star album for $10 and then a few freebie 3 star live recordings.
Jesus People?
Sorry Boolez, You don't understand Jasons drive or the real reason he's making music (Glory to our God). He's already done the "Professional" Studio album in Beautiful People. Check it out if your looking for a quality studio sound- it's an amazing album. This release was done at his home studio with Live takes & family around to capture the Spirit of his music. It's great as well in it's own right. I'm thrilled he had Micah sing and they are 2 of my favorites on here. Lou's Song is superb. Other highlights are Between the Graveyard, Beautiful, the instrumental Flowers, Shadow of your Wings. I love the recording concept & change in vocals. Great Album for Jesus and Non-Jesus? People, I guess....
