Olympia, Washington's Latest & Greatest Contribution to Alternative Rock
There are two bands called Congratulation on iTunes. This is the Congratulations from Olympia, Washington, and -- trust me -- it's the one you're looking for. If you've seen them live, you know why they have such a devoted following. Lead vocalist and keyboard player, Jordan Ingram, heads up a band of 4 brilliant musicians and songwriters. Their stage presence is understated and cool, allowing the alluring drive of their music to speak for itself, and the same can be said of this album. Every track on One Billion is thoughtfully crafted with a tight balance between mellow and emotionally charged. The lyrics are consuming. One of my favorite songs is Two of Us. The tempo change at the end is dominant. I hope they release a full-length album next!
An album for every taste
I first saw Congratulations perform live in a dive bar in Olympia, WA. Congratulations came on stage after a series of all-scream, no-substance bands and the energy of the place immediately changed. The room filled with locals who had clearly been waiting all night to see their favorite band. The music was driving and consuming. It was a marriage of rock, alternative and folk performed with effortless perfection. Every person in the room, regardless of personal musical preference, couldn't take their eyes or ears off the band. The energy and power of their live music translates seamlessly to this recording. One Billion is a fantastic album that I'd recommend to anyone - which is a testament in and of itself. I can't wait to see what's next for this band.
Great Album
This is a great second release from an awesome band. Their first album was one of my all time favorites, although I don't see it on iTunes. (Don't confuse it with that album from the other Congratulations, which is listed alongside of this one for some reason.) My favorite songs on this one are Pushover and Diamonds and All.
