Album Review

On his third album, One Day Die, Matt Duke continues to be a frustratingly uneven singer/songwriter. Much of the time, his music is over-arranged, with the hooks buried and the instruments getting in each other's way, and his singing, ranging from a throaty tone to a falsetto, is mannered, doing no favors to the often-obscure lyrics. But every once in a while, he will break out a catchy, direct song with good lyrics that he sings straight. Examples here include "Needle and Thread" and "The Hour." It's not that he should make entire albums of such tunes, but in varying his approach, he would be better off toning down the arty embellishments in favor of clarity. As it is, he remains a clearly talented artist who doesn't seem to be able to distinguish his strengths from his weaknesses.

Medium Rock!

This album gives me a new sense of belief in everything Matt Duke stands for! This CD is so different from anything Matt's put out in the past and I think it has a lot to do with his growth not only as a man, but a musician as well. Already existing crowd favorites like "Needle and Thread" and "Love you Anymore" don't disappoint! "Kangaroo Court" was well worth the wait- totally different vibe than the Matt we're used to, but I'm diggin' it! I've never believed in someone as much as Matt. Please, please support this extremely talented musician! You won't regret it!

Well worth the wait...

It feels like the wait has been forever for Matt Duke to release the follow-up to "Kingdon Underground", but I can definitely say it's been worth every second. If you ever have a chance to see this man perform live, DO NOT pass it up. Amazing stuff...highly recommended.

The Great Matt Duke has done it again.

I have been waiting for this album to come out for months and months and its finally here! In a world of auto-tuned idiots and over processed garage Matt Duke is a breath of fresh air. Hooray for Matt Duke!
