One of my favorite albums

It's important to understand that this is not like any other RHCP album. Dave Navarro brought a more psychedelic, textured sound that was quite different than the funky, dextrous approach of John Frusciante. There was definitely a lot of creative friction and drug use during the making of this album and it shows. However, that shouldn't hide the genius moments of this album. Warped- 9/10 One of the best songs on this album, very psychedelic and has that metal feel about it. Aeroplane- 10/10 Definitely a favorite of mine. Very funky, definitely returning to what BSSM and Mother's Milk were built upon. Deep Kick- 7/10 A very odd song but very, very rapid and energetic. Flea's crooning at the end is pretty cool. My Friends- 8/10 Good for mainstream purposes, quite similar to Under the Bridge. Navarro's guitar chords are very layered. There are actually 5 layers of guitar in this song. Coffee Shop- 7.5/10 One of the strangest RHCP songs ever, not just on this album. An odd fusion of funk and metal, not like their other fusions. Pea- 8/10 Flea's moment of glory. People think he's just trying to be funny but he's talking about real things that go on. One Big Mob- 8/10 Cool, hip funky song. Sounds like something from Uplift. Walkabout- 9.5/10 Perfectly funky and groovy. This is also Dave Navarro's least favorite song on this album, go figure. Took a half a point off because I just wish it was longer! Tearjerker- 5/10 I know Anthony and Kurt Cobain were good friends, but come on. Didn't Kurt deserve a better tribute than this? One Hot Minute- 9/10 Brilliant song. This is a great blend of RHCP and Jane's Addiction. Definitely check this one out, one of the most underrated and underappreciated songs they've ever made. Falling Into Grace- 7.5/10 Couldn't really get into this one. Not terrible, but just kind of strange and unusual. Shallow Be Thy Game- 9/10 One of my favorites on this album. Love the lyrics and Flea and Dave rip off a lot of riffs. Transcending- 10/10 This is the best song on the album. It was written by Flea in tribute to his friend River Phoenix, who died during the making of this album. Just a beautiful song, buy it now. Overall, this is definitely a stranger album than the others. If you're looking for funky, pop-oriented RHCP, than you should probably look elsewhere because there is not as much of that on this album. However, if you're looking for something different from RHCP, than this is the way to go. I would also recommend to this to people such as myself who like RHCP and old school Jane's Addiction.

great album

Dave navaro definatly saved the chilis on this project but definatly not as good as it would b w John, navaro didn't even want to play w them, he said he can't feel funk let alone play it but he put his oun spin on things, too bad johns gone for good...

Biography

Formed: 1983 in Hollywood, CA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Few rock groups of the '80s broke down as many musical barriers and were as original as the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Creating an intoxicating new musical style by combining funk and punk rock together (with an explosive stage show to boot), the Chili Peppers spawned a slew of imitators in their wake, but still managed to be the leaders of the pack by the dawn of the 21st century. The roots of the band lay in a friendship forged by three school chums, Anthony Kiedis, Michael Balzary, and Hillel Slovak,...
