iTunes Review

The last album to feature founding member Bernie Leadon and the first to include guitarist Don Felder, One of These Nights shows the Eagles in transition. “Hollywood Waltz” and “Lyin’ Eyes” continued in the mold of the silky country rock that made them famous, while “Journey of the Sorcerer” and “One of These Nights” pointed the way towards the opulent ‘70s rock of Hotel California. The band made full use of its new three-guitar lineup on “Too Many Hands” and “Visions,” which feature dueling solos and electrified harmonies. Despite the fact that the group was breaking new ground, there is no mistaking the album’s underlying sense of finality. “Take It To the Limit,” “After the Thrill Is Gone,” and Bernie Leadon’s “I Wish You Peace” (“I wish you the strength to let love glow on / I wish you the strength to let love go on”) can all be read as poignant farewell messages to the group’s original incarnation as it prepared to embark on a new path.
