Wow....
10 years ago if you told me the bald white tshirt wearing busdriver-singer would release a remix album of his solo albums I would have laughed. I mean sure, Derek has sang Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys...But a Remix Album??? Isn't it a joke? -Nope; and that's what's great about Derek's music...it's always new, fresh, and the last thing in the world you'd expect. And One Zero Remix is just that. No new songs, but a fresh look at them. Ballad In Plain Red, and King and a Kingdom are especially well done. It's nice to see something new and creative. The song samples do a decent job portraying the bredth of the songs, so check them out.
An almost perfect One Zero
This morning when I downloaded the album, a smile crossed my face when the first bit of the song Mockingbird came out of my speakers. I'm really proud of this new release. It takes some risks to reinterpret some songs that have been around a while, but still (often) captures the mood of the original. Some thoughts come to mind: It's hard to imagine what someone hearing this outside of the context of the original songs would think---though I'm fairly sure that's not the purpose. The production is perfect on some tracks, while perhaps a little thick and a bit more obscure on others. Some of my favorite remixes are Mockingbird, Better Than Wine, Ballad In Plain Red and I Hate Everything (But You).
Excellent twist to class
This album combines Derek's inspiring lyrics with new musical heart. It's unorthodox arrangements make it seem as if the album speaks new life into previously recorded songs. This album creates a brand new experience with Derek Webb that has never been heard before! Stay classy~Jon
