Sublime!!

This is the Dionne album I have been waiting many years for! And it was worth the wait! A new classic right up there with all the Bachrach David masters. Just got it today. And plan to be playing it on my iPod for years to come.

Absolutely Amazing

Dionne brings new light to her tone and her interpretation is wonderful. This is the voice of a woman who is over 70. Possibly the best album she's ever done. Buy this one. You won't be sorry.

Time To Hang It Up

Some artists mellow with age and bless us with experienced interpretations of the material. Although Dionne gives it her best shot, she is a pale spectre of what she was in the 60's and 70's when she had the beautiful voice to match her interpretive skills. The songs sound dull and limited to a narrow range. Pull out any of her old Scepter albums and hear how good she used to be. Why not call it a career and leave us with our fondest memories of the old Dionne?

It is easier to define Dionne Warwick by what she isn't rather than what she is. Although she grew up singing in church, she is not a gospel singer. Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan are clear influences, but she is not a jazz singer. R&B is also part of her background, but she is not really a soul singer, either, at least not in the sense that Aretha Franklin is. Sophisticated is a word often used to describe her musical approach and the music she sings, but she is not a singer of standards...
