Album Review

Poison's best album still has a bit of filler that fails to deliver the big hooks and catchy riffs of their best material; when that happens, Bret Michaels' affected "rawk & rowl" singing accent begins to grate. But thankfully, that doesn't happen very often on Open Up and Say...Ahh!, which solidified the group's status as hair metal's top party band. The ballad "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," Poison's only number one hit, and the Top Ten "Nothin' But a Good Time" became their most widely recognized signature songs; a cover of Loggins & Messina's "Your Mama Don't Dance" also hit the Top Ten, and the sometimes-overlooked "Fallen Angel," one of their best songs, got plenty of MTV airplay. But the agreeable raunch of album tracks like "Love on the Rocks," "Good Love," and "Look But You Can't Touch" helps make Open Up and Say...Ahh! Poison's best overall album. [The 2006 Capitol reissue contains two bonus tracks.]

Great CD

by KISS Fan '96

This is their biggest selling studio album/CD and overall it's good but some of their later work was better musically and lyrically (Flesh & Blood and/or Crack a Smile). Much like thier 1st album the singles are superior to other songs on the album. The deep track that needs a 2nd listen to would be Love on the Rocks, Look But You Can't Touch and Good Love.

Only two songs I'd consider filler, Tearin' Down the Walls and Bad to Be Good. They could have used a little more work musically however the other 8 songs rock. And with only 40 minutes of rock and 34 minutes of it being great one can easily see why this was a big hit.

Bonus track: Livin' for the Minute may be better than Bad to Be Good, perhaps that should have been on album originally?

your such an idiot. i saw your other reviews and you obviously despise all talented metal bands except metallica. what are you? Emo? metalica is a good band but seriously, Poison, Anvil, Papa Roach, Motley crue and others you hate deserve nothing but respect. and yet, you fail at that. i know you werent trying to respect them. but dude. grow up. listen to what you want and leave other talented music you hate alone.
