The General Has Done It Again!

In the land of breaks.. there is a General who leads his troops to a funky dirty grind that makes your a*s and body move. This album does this and then some. It far surpasses the latest release from the Crystal Method. While most people rest of their laurels or just get too experimental, GM just keeps it to the basics. Those basics are hard beats, funky grooves and the know how to move the song in a new direction just when you got comfortable with the first part. Its sad that Breakbeat hasnt gotten more attention here in the US. Too many people are caught up in the whole "House" scene and really bad trance music. General Midi is one of the few artists that does it well time and time again. He is in the top 5 all time breakbeat artists... while BT used to be breakbeat, BT just got too caught up in his boy band looks and forgot how to write a groove. There isnt a bad tune on this album. Buy it now or just ignore this and suffer in silence.

Break Beat Gold Medalist

This is the first full LP that I have heard from the general but I have always enjoyed his tracks and certainly rocked his mixes when I could get my hands on them. I must say, dude has got himself an ability. The production on this album is raw, gritty and bangs on every track. Audio Assault and Kickbox will bust your back if your not ready. I'm willing to say General Midi is my favorite producer of breaks to date and I'm exited to see he is able to do what he does when so few are doing it. Unfortunatly, he did not mix all the tracks together at the end of the album. This would have made this album monopolize my attention. You like mind blowing breaks.... Cop it.

All salute General Midi!!

After being utterly disappointed with The Prodigy's "Invaders Must Die" and ESPECIALLY disappointed with Adam Freeland's "Cope", I looked forward to General Midi's new outing, "Operation Overdrive" to satisfy my Breakbeat/NuSkool Breaks needs for this year. I've enjoyed every one of the General's albums since his "Genetically Modified" album, and this one, IMHO is his very best album to date! Everything screams "high quality" from the awesome beats to the rockin' vocals from all of the guest MCs. In many ways this is the album that I was expecting from Adam Freeland with "Cope." But General Midi takes the cake with this one, fusing rock with breaks and making one of the best albums in the genre in quite awhile. My only gripe is with Apple's iTunes Music store. What "Bonus Track" are you guys talking about? I have the actual CD and it's standard on every print I've seen thus far! No "bonus" of any kind here! Either way, "I, Robot" is one of the best tracks on the album. I highly recommend this one! I salute you, General Midi!

General Midi, or Paul Crossman, who also performed under the name Fluid, came out of the Bristol club scene, making a splash when he became resident DJ at the Shimmy Club in 1994. His mix of breakbeat with nu-skool, electronica, house, and hip-hop made him a popular act, and he traveled all over Europe performing his sets. In 1999 he released his single "The Westerner," followed two years later by "Daft Funk," the same year that his first...
