iTunes Review

Leeland may call Texas home, but its musical inspiration comes from across the Atlantic. The Christian quintet’s sound owes much to British prog-rock, both in its earlier incarnations (Yes, Genesis) and more recent permutations (Coldplay, Travis). “Count Me In,” “Don’t Go Away” and similar tracks are propelled by torrents of U2-like lead guitar, while lighter tunes like the boisterous “Wake Up” and the slinky “Beginning and the End” provide an alternative to the album’s sometimes strident tone. Lyrically, “Let It Out Now” and the title tune stand out for their theme of God-centered nonconformity amidst the materialism of the everyday world. As on their debut, the band proves itself adept in the modern praise realm with such worshipful tracks as “Enter This Temple” and “May Our Praise.” Leeland Mooring’s lead vocals convey the innocent passion of youthful belief — his awkward-but-plaintive upper range is especially effective on “Brighter Days.” Ultimately, it’s this slightly naïve quality which gives Leeland its own identity and makes Opposite Way a convincing expression of faith.

Customer Reviews

They've done it again!

They've once again produced an absolutely amazing record, as good as, if not better than, the first. I saw Leeland in concert and asked about their new album and when they told me it was coming out early 2008... well ever since I've been so anxious to hear it, and it's finally out. They did a really amazing job, Leeland and the band are all such talented songwriters. This album brings glory to God in every way, and it's really fun to listen to. Leeland is still fairly new, but with their quality, it seems like they've been around forever. It's so easy to just listen to it over and over again. Great job Leeland!

yes.

i literally got on itunes and bought this album at midnight. i listened to the whole thing today before school. AMAZING. I saw them live at State Youth Conference and they did a couple of these songs, and let me tell you, you NEED to see these guys live. Best Tracks: Count me In (yes, an album with a decent single), Let It Out Now, Opposite Way, and Thief In the Night.

Decent

Really? Am I the only one who's frustrated by the lack of musical progress that pop-Christian music is offering these days? I LOVED Sound of Melodies. I LIKE this album. To me, this is a continuation of the first. Great lyircs, yes, but nothing new. Nothing dynamic. No risks. I hear the same themes borrowed from the first album, or other bands like U2 or Coldplay who stay original (or try to). Gotta love Leeland, but I expected more. Wanna hear something fresh and worshipful, look up Zach Payne.
