Album Review

Singers Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley are not only both veterans of many Broadway musicals and duo performances in concert settings, but they are also married to one another. Their first recording together covers a wide variety of music that has been sung on-stage over the decades. They restore the frequently omitted verse to Fats Waller's "Honeysuckle Rose" (a common sin among jazz vocalists) and interact with one another as they make the most of Andy Razaf's playful lyrics, backed by pianist David Loud's swinging accompaniment. The musical backing is expanded to include a small orchestra for a medley of favorites by Harold Arlen, culminating in an enchanting interpretation of "That Old Black Magic." They also have a lot of fun with a romp through "Nellie the Nudist Queen." The couple chooses less familiar works from Stephen Sondheim's vast songbook, interacting as if they are on-stage instead of in the studio for an audience consisting of musicians and technicians. Both vocalists are in great form throughout these sessions. It is disappointing that the individual musicals that featured each of these songs are not mentioned anywhere within the CD booklet, but this omission should not detract from this outstanding release.

AMAZING

Oh. My. God. Marin Mazzie and Jason Daniely are truly phenomenal. There is no possible way anyone on Earth could not love this, and, judjing by the other reviews, others agree with me. My personal favorites are probably "Not a Day Goes By," "A Sorta Love Song," "The Natural Order of Things," and "I Won't Send Roses." For anyone else who loves this, I would recommend "Ragtime," which starred Marin Mazzie, and "Curtains," which starred Jason Daniely. These two are truly amazing.

Pretty Good

Jason Danieley and Marin Mazzie have truthfully made a really good cd. His voice is amazing, I have seen him on Broadway in the show "Curtains", and he is really spectacular. This is the first time I've heard of Ms. Mazzie and I think her voice is very nice. The variety of the songs is really interesting, and none of them were really familliar to me, since I'm young, and I loved most of these songs. Buy this cd, it's totally worth it.

Addictive

I saw Mazzie and Danieley perform together at the Kennedy Center in D.C. and then bought their CD. It's amazing, and now that I've listened to it, I just can't stop!!
