No new ground
Steve Morse never had a bigger fan than I am, but I have to report that Out Standing in Their Field never leaves the ground that Steve has already broken in several previous albums. It's good--great, technically--but nothing new artistically.
Love it!
The Introduction has always been one of my favorite Steve Morse CD's (just to tell ya where I'm coming from): I hate to say it but I really expected less from this outing, and after 3 or 4 listens am very pleasantly surprised. There is a lot of great "Souther-Rock-On-Steroids" type of playing here, and a lot of fun new licks that I'm falling more and more in love with each time I push play. This CD really needs to be heard from front to back to really see it's value. Steve seems to have stripped away a lot of the tones he has used in the past and decided to stay with a much "heavier" or dirtier tone for this one, and it really works from front to back. Very nice work!
An amazing player
This latest release rocks! Few musicians play like Steve Morse and band on this one. Dave LaRue and Van Romaine round out the trio. I've been a fan since FreeFall with the Dixie Dregs, and still find Morse one of the best.
