Outside My Door

Best children's album out there.

     

In my 13 years of teaching music, and 11 years of parenting, I have not come across a more gifted artist than Lori Henriques.

This album, Ouside my Door, features 10 original works that channel the big musical ideas of the great composers who gave us Sesame Street. Each carefully crafted and sublimly executed jazz piece will move you, thoughtfully, to a new place whether you are a child or a grown-up.

Her piece "Green Leaf on the Ground" makes me cry every time, though it does not sound sad. The lyrics are profound. "Once in a while, a leaf falls before it's time." <<sob>> Beautiful poetry set to delicate and moving piano. Nothing is over done.

Oh, and if you have not heard it, her album "Lullaby Piano" is a MUST in every home with an infant. It think I have sent 100 CDs as gifts to friends having babies. It is not just lovely music to put your baby to sleep. It is a teaching tool!! (Read up on the Suzuki method of teaching young children music. Don't be surprised if you 3 year old starts picking out the classics on the piano one day!! Really, this is happening with my own children, and it's magical.)
