Phenomenal debut album from Nashville's MBIRD. Haunting melodies, gorgeous acoustic arrangements and thoughtful lyrics highlight this alt-country chanteuse's record from start to finish. Superior musicianship from the band keeps pace with the masterful vocals and creates tunes that keep rewarding the listener with each play. "Over the Bones" pushes the envelope of the genre, from the country swing of "Train Song" and "Porch Swing," the folksy ballads of "One Kiss" and "Lonesome," to the electrified stomp of "Over My Head" and "I See Your Mind." MBIRD is an artist that thrives on taking conventions in music and turning them on their ear, giving the listener exactly what they want, before they even know they want it. A must own.
