Return to Powerpop
Johnny Monaco has crafted an excellent "powerpop" album, with a voice that seems to sound like the love child of John Lennon, Elvis Costello and Robin Zander and guitar playing that brings back fond memories of the late 80's. Current lead singer and guitar player of Chicago power pop band Enuff Z'nuff, this albums has roots in that "sound" but definetly stands on it's own. Check out ** The Wrong Crowd ** I'll Take You as You Are and the super catchy and hilarious ** Model of a Woman. I once read a review that described an alblum as having more hooks than a tackle box, I think that goes for Overrated as well.
Monaco Is Definitely Underrated
Johnny Monaco is an amazing talent. I saw him recently at a small club and I was blown away. This album is a great example of his talent. I especially liked "The Wrong Crowd", "Still Haven't Called" and "Television Love". Keep Rockin Johnny!
In the vein of Beatles-meets-Cheap Trick
This is the latest release from Johnny Monaco, who in his spare time fronts 80's rockers Enuff Z'Nuff. Overrated is loaded with plenty of catchy tunes. I would have given it 5 stars, but there's just not enough Monaco guitar solos on here. Having seen him live, I know he can really play, but he chooses to underplay here. Great CD, though.
