Sicut Cervus
I did not think that the Westminster Cathedral Choir was off on the Three Motets: Sicut Cervus Desiderat. On the contrary, this is the perhaps the best version of Sicut Cervus that I have been able to find on iTunes. I have searched for iTunes recordings of this great piece of music by Palestrina, and this was the best one I could find.
Sict Cervus sound issues
I only have the Three Motets: Sicut Cervus track and the recording is such that it sounds as if the choir is off key at some points. As such, I would recommend purchasing one of the other two recordings available, unless you are as big a fan of this song as I am. In that case, go ahead.
Good CD
this CD is worth spending your money on. Regarding the version of Sicut Cervus that is on this cd---it all depends on what you like. The all male choir attacks the piece with brio and gusto. They render an energetic rendition and the boy sopranos and basses are really something special. Of special note is that they include the second movement of the piece Sitivit Anima Mea. However since I am the leader of a small chamber singing group and we are not likely to sound as powerful as this choir when we sing, i introduced the piece to my group by having them listen to the much softer and gentler Joseph Flummerfelt version. I would recommend buying both this version and the Flummerfelt version for the sake of comparison. iTunes makes it cheap and easy to do this!!
