prodigio is amazing

itunes please get more prodigio, the older albums!!!!!

An impressing concept, but with some fallbacks

It is impressive that El Prodigio crosses the boundaries of both American and Dominican music on this album. However, his choice of renditions is somewhat laughable. For instance, "La Cuchilla", a rendition of "Twist and Shout" (which is considered rock, not jazz) is still obviously more weighed on Perico ripiao/Merengue tipico, than it is on the American styles. It would be too hard to make an album entitled "Pambiche meets jazz" and fully grasp all the variations and aspects of jazz music all the while fusing it with merengue, even for a master of accordion such as El Prodigio. Now, contradicting my review, it would also be amusing in the least for Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Django Reinhardt, Nat King Cole, Charles Brown, Jimmy Rushing, Ella Fitzgerald, or even the versatile Quincy Jones to make an album entitled "Jazz Ripiao" or "Jazzarengue"; I can see them now, doing a watered-down version of "Suavemente", "La Fiesta Ya se Encendio", or any of the other bordeline-pop merengue hits that mainstream America and supposed Latin music "enthusiasts" know so well. But this attempt at innovation is simply too difficult to do in 80 minutes worth of music. And for this I subtract two stars from the original five I would give it if this were simply another merengue tipico album. Now, for all you bleeding-heart Merengue listeners out there who might respond with a review cursing my effforts to analyze this album, take this review into consideration and really ask yourself if this is truly a merengue-jazz fusion that is on par with an album such as Andy Montanez's "Salsaton: Salsa con reggaeton". I am not stating that salsa or reggaeton is simpy a better style of music, but at least on that album Montanez manages to collaborate with some of Reggaeton's finest singers (Daddy Yankee, Julio Voltio, John Eric, La Sista, Crooked Stilo), and makes you appreciate and see the potential of both styles to their fullest. Good try, Krency. But maybe think of a different title for your next merengue-jazz attempt: maybe "Prodigio goes Gringo style" or "Pambiche meets American 50's pop".

Mi musica tipica

Outstandig! Great job Krency. Another great way to bring our folkloric music to the world.
