This Is Why People Should Avoid Greatest Hit Collections

When I first thought "Blondie", I thought about the hits (and there are many i.e.. Heart of Glass, Call Me, Hanging on the Telephone, etc.) However, I am so glad I did not just buy one of the numerous greatest hit collections, because I would of missed aspects of this band I never knew existed. This is nowhere more evident when you come to an release like "Parallel Lines". This 1978 release is punk, with pop and punch; smart and experimental. On top of that: THIS WAS A GREAT BAND! Debbie Harry is great (and as a child was the subject of many imaginary encounters). But I think sometimes her "it factor" overshadowed how good the guys were.

Parallel Lines has its share of hits that are fresh enough to listen without getting burned out. (Heart of Glass, One Way or Another)). But what you get hear is a fully thought out portrait of Blonde in the late 70's. I would have NEVER fallen in love with "Fade Away and Radiate" if I stuck to a "best of" compilation. The song is Talking Heads-ish, and very "left of the dial". I hope that Blondie gets credit for taking in the sounds they heard (reggae, rap) and bring them eventually to a mass audience.

The bottom line is that Blondie was a "band" in every sense of the word, and better yet they had a originality and a lot of talent. Their finest hour lies in the 12 tracks released as Parallel Lines and I think it is worthy of any music collection.

Greatest Record EVER CREATED!!!!!!!

January 5, 1950, Brooklyn, New York) out of the remnants of Harry's previous group, the Stilettos. The lineup fluctuated over the next year. Drummer Clement Burke (b.
