Continued excellence
To quote Tom Manoff of NPR, "I don't use the word masterpiece casually. But I've spent several weeks studying the musical scores of these works, examining the extraordinary details of the composer's craft. Because of that intimate involvement, I'm confident that several of these works are true masterpieces and will be heard for a long time to come." This couldn't be any more true. It's a haunting collection and Pärt knows how to make melodies spread out and inward.
Stellar as always
Part shows us why our best music is devotional. In Principio takes it's text from the Gospel of John and is a tightly structred work in five movements. My only complaint is that i hear strains of Glass in this work. Still Its a fetching enough work to listen to. All around this is a good enough disc for anyone to like.
MASTERPIECE
An absolute masterpiece! Arvo Part's music touches the soul in a manner that is impossible to describe in words. The only downside is that iTunes does not include the booklet along with this download. This recording, however, is essential to have!
