iTunes Review

“I’m tired of talking about the past,” declares newly recruited lead singer Cody Collins on Lonestar’s Party Heard Around the World, and indeed the veteran country-pop band makes a deliberate effort here to retool themselves for another run at the charts. Replacing long-time frontman Richie McDonald, Collins injects some youthful vigor into the band’s bloodstream, moving them away from the family-friendly tone of “Mr. Mom” and “My Front Porch Looking In” towards a more freewheeling sound. Of course, Lonestar hasn’t abandoned the harmony-laden balladry that earned them so much success from the early ‘90s onwards. “You’re the Reason Why” and “Let Me Love You” are unabashedly romantic offerings, served up with more gusto than the band has shown in some time. Upbeat tracks like “Live, Laugh and Love” and “Goodbye Is Goodbye” move with sleek guitar-fueled drive, while Collins’ swaggering vocal on “Y.O.U.” sparks some real heat. The album’s title tune is a Saturday night anthem that definitely signals that Lonestar has loosened up.

Sellout.

I remember when Lonestar was first on the scene with "Amazed." That song was amazing, and so were "My Front Porch Looking In" and "I'm Already There," although on different albums. That's the sound of Lonestar I remember. But this is not the Lonestar I grew up with. They have completely sold out to the younger country artists and mimiced their style. I'm sorry, but even with a new lead singer, that doesn't mean you should completely change your music to match what every other artist is trying to do.

Worth The Wait...

I was Skeptical at first thinking Lonestar would not sound good without Richie McDonald but I was wrong the new lead singer may turn out to be better. He really gives the band a "Fresh" new sound that I think they have needed for a while! Go Lonestar!!!

Sounds like Texas Country singer Kyle Park

Cody Collins has a similar voice to Kyle Park and if anything the album's just as country as anything Richie McDonald's done in the last ten years. I'm laughing that someone called them a sellout from their My Front Porch Looking In and I'm Already There, that's around the time when they sold out. Amazed was their last real Lonestar single, not when they came on the scene. They came on the scene with Tequila Talkin'. And when No News dropped it hit #1 on the US Country charts, that's when people found out about Lonestar, not when Richie McDonald was doing it by himself. That's back when John Rich had a lot of vocals in that group around '95.
