Album Review
Mark Towns is a fluent guitarist whose Passion CD is mainstream Latin jazz with hints of music of the Middle East. Towns' guitar works well with pianist Rainel Pino, a fine soloist. The rhythm section is tight and, even if Towns overdubbed on bass for three of the songs, the music has a lively feel, ranging from stirring romps to some easy listening ballads. Flutist Hubert Laws makes guest appearances on three numbers, blending comfortably into the ensembles. Nothing earth-shattering occurs, but the overall results are pleasing, danceable, and well played.
