Album Review
The first recording by the Pat Metheny Group features the innovative guitarist along with keyboardist Lyle Mays, bassist Mark Egan, and drummer Dan Gottlieb. The music is quite distinctive, floating rather than swinging, electric but not rockish, and full of folkish melodies. The best known of these six Metheny-Mays originals are "Phase Dance" and "Jaco." This music grows in interest with each listen.

This album changed my life...
There I was, sitting on the sofa at my friend's apartment. It was a glorious Mid-Summer afternoon. I was young, out of school and expecting the same old Stones, or Dead, or Zepplin, or Deep Purple, or Santana etc... "Check this out..." he says... and then I heard the opening notes to San Lorenzo. I was astonished. It was opening day for my love and appreciation of Jazz, and in particular of the amazing and innovative work of Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. Don't think... just get this one.

One of the best things about iTunes is that we can go back and get those albums that we missed. I have heard these songs several times in concert but never had the album. This is a good one. Thank goodness Pat is out there making music still. Great Album!
How to feel young again...
...Set your cd player timer to 7am to play San Lorenzo, and wake up in a half dreamlike state where your subconcious allows you to become one with every phrase, and then your memory kicks in...you were with someone that morning, and the two of you awoke to the cool breezes of Phase Dance, and you kept playing it over and over...your senses filled...you just didn't want it to end...how could something sound this beautiful..?
