Album Review

Arguably Megadeth's strongest effort and a classic of early thrash, Peace Sells combines a punkish political awareness with a dark, threatening, typically heavy metal world-view, preoccupied with evil, the occult, and the like. The anthemic title track and "Wake Up Dead" are the two major standouts, and there is also a cover of Willie Dixon's "I Ain't Superstitious," which takes on an air of supernaturally induced paranoia in the album's context. The lines between hell and earth are blurred throughout the album, and the crashing, complex music backs up Dave Mustaine's apocalyptic vision of life as damnation — his limited vocal style is used to great effect, growling and snarling in a barely intelligible fashion under all the complicated guitar work. Vital, necessary thrash.

Customer Reviews

AMAZING!

Best Thrash Metal Album from start to finish. This is a true Masterpiece. All hail the almighty Mustaine!

Thrashy as hell

This album is a prime example of pure thrash. Mustaine is able to take his awful voice and use it to perfection. The sarcastic nature of his singing fits in exellently with the vibe of the songs. I am really surprised that there isnt more reviews for this album. It is a pinnacle of the thrash genre. I have not heard this remaster but its probably fine because I think Mustaine did it himself. The original was too rough anyways.

Metallica topped megadeth a good bit but this gave metallica the middle finger this album from track 1 to 8 is nonstop perfect thrash. Dave mustaines guitar work destroys on this album. Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

After he left Metallica in 1983, guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine formed the thrash metal quartet Megadeth. Though Megadeth followed the basic blueprint of Metallica's relentless attack, Mustaine's group distinguished themselves from his earlier band by lessening the progressive rock influences, adding an emphasis on instrumental skills, speeding the tempo up slightly, and making the instrumental attack harsher. By streamlining the classic thrash metal approach and making the music more threatening,...
