Album Review
Recorded while Peter Frampton was still in the band, Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore captures an early performance by Humble Pie where Steve Marriot's lyricism and ideas where balanced by Frampton's searing lead guitar. This is hardly as engaging as As Safe Yesterday Is, which had studiocraft along with songcraft, but as a document of a band at a pivotal point in their existence, this is valuable and at times insightful.
Customer Reviews
Humble Pie Rockin' The Fillmore
A must buy just for Steve Marriott's vocals alone. Frampton and Marriott's guitar licks are a bonus. One of the finest live albums ever. The energy of the band comes through in the music. All of the songs are favorites, but especially love Rollin' Stone, I'm Ready, Stone Cold Fever, and I Don't Need No Doctor...their signature song. Rest in peace Marriott and Ridley.
Most Underrated Live Album
Humble Pie was another awesome classic rock band that was simply forgotten. This album probably would of been next to Who's Live at Leeds in popularity, but it just wasn't as recognized as much. Then Frampton goes and breaks off of The Pie, goes solo and comes out with one of the best selling live albums, Frampton Comes Alive, what a coincidence.
Never Better, Never Surpassed
Anyone who attended one of Humble Pie's early performances came away feeling like they had experienced something truly incredible. Every aspect from the stinging guitars, to the penetrating vocals, and the deep rhythm and thunder of base and drums, dripped with blues, and emotion. This album captures the performers at their most invigorated and energetic. It still amazes us that five Brits playing the blues thirty four years ago can still inspire and awe with the raw power of unbridled Rock and Roll, and Rhythm and Blues. Listen to "I'm Ready" and feel the power!!!!
