Album Review

Columbia/Legacy's Personal Christmas Collection is an excellent overview of Doris Day's holiday recordings, containing 15 highlights from her many Christmas albums, including "The Christmas Song," "Silver Bells," "Here Comes Santa Claus," "I'll Be Home for Christmas," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "White Christmas," and "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!." The compilation may span several decades, but Day's style remained essentially the same throughout the years, which makes this lovely collection a consistent and thoroughly entertaining listen.

A Christmas "Must-Have"!

Doris Day's singing is warm, and welcoming at any time of the year but especially at Christmas. This album could be called a 'Christmas Greatest Hits" as it is a compiliation of Day's Christmas songs. The 'big-band' and lovely almost jazz-like vocals make you close your eyes and imagine sitting next to a radio and big roaring fire. You can't help but smile while listening. Doris Day's "Personal Christmas Collection" is a must have for every Christmas album collection regardless if you are a fan or not.

She's Still Got It!

The innocence and charm of Doris Day's flawless vocal style effortlessly shines through on this compilation. The wonderful laid back soft jazz feel gives this collection a timeless quality not easily found in a lot of contemporary holiday music. As such, it definitely makes for a pleasant and nostalgic listening experience. Though these were recorded long ago, they still hold up as strong as ever to this very day. She's still got it!

Christmas Sounds Just Like This

This collection is one of the most beautiful traditionally arranged music ever. Doris's beautiful timber over sweeping arrangements, a perfect match. Kudos for this cd's brilliant remastering, everything sparkles. While all the songs sparkle, a standout track for me personally is Doris's perfect rendition of "The Christmas Waltz."

Doris Day has packed four careers into one lifetime, two each in music and movies. The pity is that all most people remember are her movies, from Teacher's Pet (1957) onward, as the quintessential all-American girl, the perpetually virginal screen heroine, cast opposite such icons of masculinity as Clark Gable and, rather ironically, Rock Hudson. She also transposed this following to television at the end of the '60s with a situation comedy that lasted into the early '70s. If most people remember...
