Beach Boys sound on a new level.
by mopar_chrishe first time I listened to this album I thought it was very strange, like a calliope on acid. But the more I listened, the more I appreciated just how deep this music is. There is a distinctive "baa baa bu ba baa" Beach Boys sound, but it is much richer than there usual surfer music. This album is very well crafted & has incredible harmonies as well as imaginative music. How many rock albums use a Theramin in their recording? The album is great, but it is worth the 10 bucks just to get God Only Knows. In my opinion God Only Knows is the most beautiful song ever recorded. I mean EVER! You owe it to yourself to get Pet Sounds it is a terrific album.
Bought this when it was on sale for 5 dollars....Bring back the sales!
by Hrw08I love the Beatles (Paul McCartney especially-he loved this album), and knew of this album's reputation as being good. So when it went on sale, I took the chance and bought it.
It really gets into your head after playing a few times. Some absolutely lovely songs, and lyrics that were a nice surprise.
I guess I thought every Beach Boys song was about surfing...not true. Really good variation of lyrics-love songs of course, but some deeper stuff and humor too.
Then I bought another Beach Boys album (a greatest hits collection)...so...they got me!
Bring back the 5 dollar special!
