Album Review

By compiling all of Peter Frampton's biggest hits — in their hit versions, so "Show Me the Way" and "Baby, I Love Your Way" are from Frampton Comes Alive, not the studio albums — onto one disc, Greatest Hits functions as the definitive retrospective on the guitarist. It has a better selection than the single-disc Classics, Vol. 12, and it is more concise and listenable than the double-disc box Shine On: A Collection, which means it's the only collection that provides an effective, manageable overview of Frampton.

Not 4 the whiners

by BamaRainbow

This album is a decent look at Frampton's 1970s period. 7 songs come from his first 4 solo albums and 7 from his 3 "superstar-era" albums (and 6 of the latter group comprise his Top 40 hits). Wisely, the collection uses the "Frampton Comes Alive" hit versions instead of the studio versions from "Frampton's Camel" and "Frampton" (though those versions do have their charms). It would've been nice if the collection also featured (perhaps as a bonus track) the single version of "Do You Feel Like We Do", but such is life. Obviously, Frampton continued recording after 1979's "Where I Should Be", but that was the last album to attract much interest outside the die-hard Frampton fans who'd followed his career from the start, so very few collections even bother with his post-1979 work. But, maybe it's just as well, since Frampton's 3 hottest years almost define the sound of the 70s pop/rock. As to the whiners who gripe about not being able to get the song in its full live version without buying the album, bear in mind that you can't even get it on the "Frampton Comes Alive" album (either version) without having to buy the whole album.
