Customer Reviews

One of my favorite albums of all time.

There isn't a single song on this album I do not like, and that's a rare thing for me. Although "Games Without Frontiers" is the hit single from this album, for me "Biko" is the best song on the album. "Family Snapshot" is probably my second favorite.

First review? This recording is a classic!

Peter Gabriel's third eponymous album is a beginning-to-end masterpiece. From the paranoia embodied in "Intruder" and "No Self Control," to the pathos of "I Don't Remember," "Family Snapshot" and "Biko," there is not one misstep on this recording. "Games Without Frontiers" (Jeux Sans Frontiere) is the best known song. It's a metaphor for world discontent using a British television program of the same name as a starting point. There are some lighter moments (not many) such as "And Through the Wire," but the relative cheeriness only seems a contrasting texture to the overall dark tone of the songs, though "Biko" is more sincerely hopeful than any other song, despite it's subject being a political prisoner killed in South Africa. This is one to be enjoyed beginning to end.

Deep Peter

I have all of Peter's albums and some of his Genesis work, this is the essential. My personal favorite, just a wonderful album.

He was no less ambitious as a solo artist, but he was more subtle in his methods. With his first eponymous solo album in 1977, he began exploring darker, more cerebral territory, incorporating avant-garde, electronic, and worldbeat influences into his music. The record, as well as its two similarly titled successors, established Gabriel as a critically acclaimed cult artist, and...
