Wonderful lyricism throughout!

I loved so many songs from this album since I was a kid. I was born in 1988 so I was rather young when I first heard this album. Of course I never truly understood the lyrics until I was older and had felt much of what she sings about through the album. "You Were Meant For Me" always makes me feel like crying, and so often has actually brought me to tears. It's perhaps the saddest song I've ever heard, right up there with Sarah Mclachlan's "Angel". I hadn't heard this song, believe it or not, until I was an adult and was sitting in the Student Center of my college when it played on the radio. I had just recently suffered a break up and was incredibly astonished to find the lyrics to be exactly what I was feeling at the time. Of course I knew who it was since her voice is so distinct unlike most of todays pop singers, so of course when I got home I had to find out which album it was from, and imagine my surprise when I found out it was on Pieces of You and album I had owned for years! How I had missed it was beyond me, but then I played the album version and found that while it was still a great song I truly felt the Radio Version had much more emotion put into it. So now I listen to radio version and it can still make me cry.
Now I had always loved "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "Pieces of You", even as a kid. I think I caught onto the message of "Pieces of You" when I was young and that's why I liked it so much. Sadly I don't think that many people have the maturity to appreciate the message behind that song, and yes that's really too bad that some people think it's funny, that kinda makes them immature. I am 21 and am even distressed about the direction our youth are headed in. That certainly says something. But, I digress, I always felt like this song could go in a few directions, one being that she's saying we are all connected and being racist, homophobic, or biased is stupid because we're all the same, basically. Another angle for me was that our hatred is based upon the fact that what we hate in others is really what we hate in ourselves. I find this to be a profound truth. 90% of homophobes are homosexuals themselves (minus some seriously old fashioned and religous people. I am not dissing them but it tends to ring true), this song has always spoken to me in one way or another.
"Foolish Games" Is absolutely terrific! The lyrics are incredibley moving just like "You Were Meant For Me" was and it's totally relateable for anyone that's had relationship. I can see myself in the lyrics, or my past self. I think everyone has either had foolish games played ont hem, or has partaken in them either knowingly or unwittedly and it's an incredibly heartbreaking experience if you ask me. Lyricism at it's best with this one and "You Were Meant For Me". As I stated, the album is wonderful because of Jewel's amazing lyricism and beautiful voice. I highly recomend this, although by now chances are everyone in America already owns it.

Jewel is one of the most prominant singers of the mid to late 90's, and early 2000's.

Her debut album, "Pieces of You", is one of the best debut albums I have ever heard. Jewel is a fine singer, and writes brilliant lyrics to her brilliant songs. Recommended.

I love this album!

To this day I listen to the album on a regular basis. It reminds me of a time in my life when I was not doing to well.
I am happy to be in a better place now.
