Customer Reviews
One for the ages.....
Produced by Brian Paulson (Beck, Superchunk) this 4 piece out of Durham, NC (although recorded with a fifth memeber who left shortly after recording) is a thinking man's album. Prominent vocals really pull the listener in to the multilayered tracks, and you will hang on every word. For they are as important today as ever. Will this record change your life? Probably not, but if you find yourself putting it back on the shelf the songs will haunt you. And when you hear the driving guitars and the rhythmic bass and the pounding drums the only thing you want to do is to be counted, you want to be included as the 'everyman'. As frontman Jason Kutchma sings 'I had a map and a plan but I'm lost" (Tools) only to redeem himself by "There's such pain in dreaming, in the failure of attempt but the sting of disppointment is less than the pain of regret. I won't regret one single thing anymore" (Radio On). What the album means to me is not to take up arms or to quit the day job but to remember the simple things, listen to your favorite records, read the liner notes, go be a kid- but be happy and free, akin to the namesake's "Pilgrim" about a horse that longs to be free again on the open plains. Because in this life things change too fast. Not the perfect album but a solid 4 stars with many standouts, this one will hook you from the get-go if you slow down and listen to it.
A Working Band Singing About Working Hard
An ecclectic mix of drive-it-home punk rock with sprinkles of Springsteen, Red Collar delivers what rock-n-roll has been lacking...reality. Songs that speak to the listener and put you in the place of the narrator, whomever, it may be. Stand out tracks on this record are definitely 'Used Guitars', 'The Commuter', 'Radio On', and last, but certainly not least, the title track 'Pilgrim' is d*mned incredible.
powerful
a friend just told me about this band . . .I think they have an album release party tonight . . .very impressive . . .they attack the music, remind me of fugazi, but with a bruce springsteen like blue collar twist
