Instant classic
They just don't make 'em like this often enough anymore. N'Dambi's grooves are always solid, but the SONGS, the lush melodies and engaging lyrics, are always the first concern. In fact, my favorite track is a wicked take on today's music industry, "The World is a Beat," where N'Dambi sums up commercial R&B: "they want it now, they can't wait / if it takes too long to make a song, it's too late / it don't have to be great / just make it hot so we can get paid." PERFECT - and the writing chops on this album prove she's earned the right to call them out. All this with a voice that can riff to the heavens, and she's got the taste to know when to hang back. Some of the Best R&B in a Long, Long Time
This is one of the best R&B albums to come down the pike in a decade. No electronic slides of the voice, none of the annoying vocal olympics that are so prominent in today's pop music...just straight ahead, soulful R&B, updated for the 21st century. On "Pink Elephant," N'Dambi ingeniously combines soul-deep inspiration and a sensual style of elegance and power. She's a name to be watched on the music scene. This album was produced by the legendary Leon Sylvers (Shalamar, the Whispers, Gladys Knight, the Sylvers) for the Stax record label. The result is a most excellent album.
Amazing
I have all of N'dambi's albums. I kan say with all my heart this is her best album thus far!!! She has kome a long way from her days as a background singer 4 Ms. Badu. Plus getting a living legend like Leon Sylvers III 2 produce the album is priceless!!! With albums by Lalah Hathaway, Angie Stone, Nika Costa & Teena Marie...STAX REKORDS IS BAKK!!!
