Pure Gem!

     

It's been a minute since something, anything had escaped from the Cajo! camp and it was certainly worth the wait. This album is an undeniable classic. Like a rare gem on an archeological dig, this album is the jewel that sets it apart from all the releases made this month.

First of all, the beats are ridiculous. Spier 1200 does it again. He was crack on Finale's last project but on this album there is a much more grittier sound that embodies that Bronx, NY sound instead of Detroit. No offense to the Motor City, but this time, this sound is more deserving of the emcee. Tracks to look out for are "Peace No More," "Cut-Throat Society," and "Concrete Flows." They make me wanna break every glass in my home.

Secondly, Oktober is in rare form. He has come a long way since "The Zero," and his rhymes are so sinister and almost cryptic. He puts aside the common emcee role and goes straight for the jugular on this one, holding no bars and barely being apologetic for his vices. I love the energy and the sarcasm. plus he gets very witty with his metaphors as well. Perfect jabs, perfect timing!

Lastly, the chemistry is uncanny. Those who follow the underground know that Oktober and Spier 1200 had made irreversible magic in the past. But now, their sound is more adult, more street and more focused than ever! Spier knew what was required of Oktober and Oktober knew what to expect from Spier and it's a lyrical-beat smashing assault as the end result.

There are a few weak points on the album but those only occur with a few features. Oktober comes and saves the day from those mediocre contributions which makes their appearance bearable. One feature that stands out, however, is on "Tri-Boro," where Big Twins (of Mobb Deep fame) is over-shadowed by the Flatbush King, E-Regulah (I heard he's the next one to leave the Cajo! gate so I cannot wait for that one).

In the end, solid beats, solid rhymes, solid LP, period. Cop this gem and never let it out of your sight!
