Album Review

This 15-track entry in Sony Legacy's Playlist series is a best-of with a twist. There are 14 well-known tracks by Art Garfunkel recorded between Angel Clare, his 1973 solo debut for the label, and Up 'Til Now, issued in 1993 — including a cross-licensed cut called "Perfect Moment," from Everything Waits to Be Noticed, which was released by Blue Note in 1988. There is also the inclusion of "Grateful" from his book of the same name. Albums such as Fate for Breakfast, Breakaway, Lefty, Watermark, and Scissors Cut are also represented. In addition, there is also a CD-R selection tacked on at the end with photos, bio, vid clips, etc. This set is only for the fan, however. There have been other compilations that go much deeper for hardcore fans. Garfunkel was never a big singles artist, but these carefully selected album cuts suggest his contribution as a solo artist is largely still under-recognized.

Playlist: The Very Best Of Art Garfunel

Art Garfunkel's fabulous voice deserves a place in American Music History in almost the same class as Frank Sinatra for his work with Paul Simon alone, but much of his solo material is truly great also.
His unique voice and style speak to the romantic souls in us, and these are some of his best tunes through his entire solo career. It is a shame he has put out such little recorded material since his original breakup with Simon, because this taste of it leaves us wanting more - the music he chooses to record is special and sticks with your memory forever after. His voice and songs have been a great comfort to me through the years since I "discovered" his solo works in college 1978, and I never tire of hearing these songs.
