A Great Holiday Classic

I'm happy Apple has this available as a single with 2 songs for only 99 cents. This is how I bought this when it was originally released on vinyl in the 1970s. The song "Please Come Home for Christmas" is a timeless classic that got a lot of airplay when The Eagles were in the hedey of "Hotel California." "Funky New Year" is one of those B-sides that you have to hear to believe... and I think this is the first time its been issued on a digital format.

Nifty SoCal Christmas Ditty

An extra star for the staying power. Now considered a Christmas classic in my household. (PS: lehrer was right; total ripoff of the Beatles. Except, of course, for all the different chords and phrasings. And except for the fact that this one was written first and originally recorded years before "Oh, Darling". But aside from all that... total ripoff!!)

A classic!

This was released in late 1978 to placate the record company as well as the fans who needed more Eagles material while the band was recording The Long Run. Please Come Home For Christmas is a wonderful cover of the old Charles Brown standard. The B side, Funky New Year, is a Henley/Frey original that is, appropriately, about the funkiest thing the Eagles ever recorded. It's filled with great guitar riffs and a heavy downbeat that would make George Clinton proud! Listen for Don Henley's humorous one-liners during the vamp about "the morning after," and even producer Bill Szymczyk makes a "party" cameo.

With five number one singles, fourteen Top 40 hits, and four number one albums, the Eagles were among the most successful recording artists of the 1970s. At the end of the 20th century, two of those albums — Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) and Hotel California — ranked among the ten best-selling albums ever, and the popularity of 2007's Long Road Out of Eden proved the Eagles' staying power in the new millenium. Though most of its members came from outside California, the group was closely...
