Warning: Toxic levels of funk and extreme bass goodness
Normally, nothing threatens to put you to sleep faster than the dreaded phrase "solo record by a bass player." Thankfully, nothing is normal about Doug Johns and his razor-sharp funk on this great release. No sterile fusion background tracks, no dull and derivative Jaco fretless rehash, no self-indulgence. Pocket Fulla Nasty is a record of exciting electric funk which just happens to be composed by a bassist with a searing, unique sound. Each track is deep, inventive and very musical, featuring the dynamic sound of Johns' bass without treading into the worn territory of "bass solo records." Put it on at a party and people will forget they are listening to virtuosity - which is how it should be.
oh so funky
Can this album be any funkier. Killer bass, drums, guitar, horns and great tunes. When is the next c.d. coming. Must get for anyone who enjoys funky fusion.

This is a good listen, very original. Doug brings his R&B and Funk influence and nice horn arrangements to his songs with very hip bass sounds. I recommend this one for bass players.
