Customer Reviews
This isn't new.
Just to let everyone know, these are songs that Zach Condon recorded before he became Beirut. So, if you look at the songs as a precursor to Beirut, they shine in a new light. I think that, as an earlier work, they are splendid songs. Zach Condon dropped out of high school when he was 17 and toured Europe, supposedly, where he was introduced to Balkan music, thus creating the "Beirut" flair that we all know and love. Enjoy the songs for what they are: earlier works of Zach Condon and not new recordings.
If I were
to recommend only the second song, it would be like telling you to only listen to one Beatles album... an idea both criminal and asinine. If you are expecting this sound to compliment their 1st album, you might be slightly disappointed, but as always, Zach's voice is the pillar of his music, and crisply completes both songs. This single is worth the price of admission and I welcome anything from Beirut to my collection. Well done, and thanks.
My Boy!
I met Zach when he was still in high school and he sent me the (entire) album, Pompeii. (I was an Artist Developer for an independant promotional music group.) I was stunned. He was 17 for pete's sake! Maybe because I heard this record first or because I feel like I had a hand in a small way in his wild ride to success, I like this record the best. It's so raw and real. I remember that he apologized to me because the drums and mixing weren't perfect, but I loved them the way they were! When he went away to Europe, I wasn't sure I'd ever hear from him again, but within a few years I heard his name pop up now and again. He sent me an email a while back thanking me for the advice I gave him, and I felt so proud of him! It's too bad there are only two songs available from Pompeii. All the songs are beautiful and I will treasure them for years to come.
