New Sound
They have certainly gone a new direction with the new songs. Although I personally still love the older records better, it is great to see them stay fresh by changing it up. This song is even better when you see them live and can experience the full energy of the song.
This happened to the Felice Brothers
They actually can pull this tune off pretty close live. They have been playing about 50% of the songs on the upcoming album, including this one the past year live. The fiddle player, Greg Farley, does the drum machine stuff. It is a different sound, but they pull it off and when I saw them back in November they played this among other new tunes with old ones and the show amazing.
still surreal
I think one of the felice's greatest qualities was their surreal tone and obscure content choice. It seems just as much a part of their identity as the americana band style that some disgruntled reviewers are missing here. I personally really enjoy the new songs. And it seems like an avenue that past songs pointed towards.
